The Department has a staff of 185 workers and its functions/services are as follows:

  • Care and maintenance of all street lanterns
  • Care and maintenance of all municipal gardens
  • Repairs and maintenance of all municipal buildings which include:
    • Main Administration Building, Theatre, Salle des Fêtes and Workshops;
    • Alex Vellin Centre, Beau Bassin;
    • Rose Hill Market;
    • Beau Bassin market;
    • New Arab Town
    • Da Patten Fair;
    • Place Cardinal Margeot;
    • Place Raymond Chasle;
    • All social halls and 9 pre-primary schools Kindergartens and nursery ;
    • Sir Gaetan Duval Stadium and Synthetic Track
    • Le Quorum Sports Complex Plaisance;
    • All football grounds;
    • All Sports Complexes;
    • Boulodromes;
    • Taxi Stands and public toilets;
  • Repairs and maintenance of all urban roads except classified roads
  • Tarring and reinstatement of lanes; – Resurfacing of roads;
  • Construction of new drains;
  • Repair, maintenance and cleaning of existing drains;
  • Road marking and confection of street furniture (traffic signs, street name plates);
  • Care and maintenance of all municipal gardens, green spaces and family corners;
  • Fixing of new street lanterns and decorative lights;
  • Repairs and maintenance of street lanterns;
  • Repair and maintenance of all municipal vehicles
  • Provision of facilities such as erection of podium, decoration and lighting for socio-cultural activities.

 

The following Committee has been appointed by the Council to look into main matters pertaining to the department.

  1. The Public Infrastructure Committee deliberates under delegated powers on matters regarding urban roads, drains, street lighting, municipal gardens/parks and buildings as listed above.
  2. Moreover being a Utility Department we have to attend and execute all infrastructural works (maintenance & repairs, etc…) pertaining to other departments.

  1. Construction of New Roads within the Township of Beau Bassin Rose Hill
  2. Construction of drains within the Township of Beau Bassin Rose Hill
  3. Upgrading works with new led lights at Jardin Cavalot
  4. Upgrading of municipal sports facilities at Maryse Justin Complex, Plaisance
  5. Upgrading of municipal sports facilities at Tennis CourtPlaisance, Rose Hill
  6. Upgrading of football ground at Camp Levieux (Avenue Cretin)
  7. Replacement of defective fencing at Camp Le Vieux football ground
  8. Implementation of measures for improving access for disabled persons
  9. Upgrading works at Camp Le Vieux Cremation Ground
  10. Extension at first floor of Roland Mootoo Building at Trèfles for setting up a multipurpose social hall
  11. Construction of a Mini-Library at Camp Levieux
  12. Waterproofing works at E.Du-vivier municipal centre, Plaisance
  13. Waterproofing works at Stanley Pre-Primary School
  14. Waterproofing works at Jacques Rougeot Pre-primary school, Trèfles
  15. Waterproofing works at Lois Levieux Pre-primary school, Camp Levieux
