The Council holds meetings on a quarterly basis. Such council meetings, that take place
after a series of meetings of the various Committees, are - unlike the latter,
which deliberate in camera - open to the public.
The Committees ensure that key issues are considered in sufficient depth before
decisions are taken. Thus, Committees comprising of twelve elected members are
constituted each year following the election of the Mayor.
Deliberations during Committee meetings are governed by standing orders and
are presided by Chairmen duly appointed soon after the election of the Mayor.
The Committees that have been set up are as follows:
1. The General Purpose Committee
2. The Finance Committee
3. The Public Health Committee
4. The Expenditure and Fiscal Committee
5. The Works Committee
6. The Social Services Committee
7. The Art, Culture and Leisure Committee
8. The Sports Committee
9. The Human Resource Management Committee
10. The Tourism, Plans & Environment Committee
11. The e-Town, Public relations and Communication Committee
